Are you forgetting that 2 days ago President Obama legalized cannabis use in Washington DC and Colarado, to a more relaxed level than even amsterdam. I’m sorry but if the president of the united states legalizes it as one of his first actions after being re-elected. Then it surely should be a much more important issue worldwide. I just think you’re scared if it was to happen in britain, you know it would change the economy, so i simply do not see where your beef is with peter reynolds !

First of all I would like to thank you for taking an interest in Reynolds Watch.  We are always happy to take emails and provide responses to the best of our abilities.

First of all, your understanding of the steps taken towards legalization in America is woefully ill-informed.  President Obama has done nothing to move towards the legalization of cannabis in any state.  Voter-sponsored ballot initiatives in Colorado and Washington State (not Washington D.C.) have received approval for a legalization scheme in those two states.  Cannabis remains a prohibited substance under federal law.  The DEA has stated that they intend to enforce federal law as is their mandate.  The Attorney General of the United States is yet to provide commentary on the subject, other than to say they are reviewing these developments and deciding upon how to respond.  It is speculated by many in the American press that court action will be taken and an injunction placed upon these initiatives.

In short, President Barack Obama has done nothing to legalize cannabis, nor has he personally commented on the developments which took place during the election on Tuesday.

I would also point out that your understanding of the Parliamentary process in the United Kingdom is somewhat lacking.  Peter Reynolds, were he to be elected, would be the only member of his party to sit in Parliament and thus occupy a back-bench position with no voice or power to speak of.  What “moves” you feel he is going to be able to make from that position is unclear, but I can assure you that they are entirely the product of your imagination.  Peter being elected as an MP, a City Councillor or the County Dog Catcher would quite simply not bring anybody any closer to consuming cannabis in the United Kingdom without fear of legal penalty.

You question our motives as some are want to do, and I will direct you to the content of the site in order to find your answers.  While the legality of cannabis consumption remains a major issue, there are many other issues upon which an MP will be expected to vote.  Peter’s history of outrageously bigoted remarks speaks to a political bent that is more English Defence League than it is Green Party, and as such many in the cannabis activism community find him to be exquisitely distasteful.
