Peter Reynolds defends racist Tory Enoch Powell

Have you ever heard of Enoch Powell?  I’ll be perfectly honest here; I had only ever encountered the name in passing.  That shouldn’t be overly surprising; Enoch was a man who decided to consign himself to the dustbin of history by proudly proclaiming attitudes which would have been better received 100 years before he expressed them.  

A former Tory MP, Enoch predicted in his now infamous “Rivers of Blood” speech that by about 1988 white people would be enslaved by people who were not white in the United Kingdom.

If you happen to be white, is a black person whipping you right now?  No?  Strange, because Peter is quite convinced that is the case.

Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself on purpose here, to provide a teaser, to the delightfully ignorant romp through Peterland that we are about to embark upon.  Get your “what the living fuckballs” face ready – you’re going to need it.

This is the text of Powell’s infamous speech. If you want to truly get your head around things you should read the entire body of the speech.  If you don’t have time for that just try to find the phrase “wide-grinning piccaninnies”.  That’s one of those statements that is just plainly racist, is in no way salvaged by context, and actually gets worse if you look at the way it is presented.

Now that you’ve read that Hitleresque mountain of steaming excrement, I would like to you check out Peter’s defence of Enoch Powell.

Not racist?  If that speech had been presented in the Victorian Era it would have been fairly appropriate to the level of discourse in Parliament.  Presented as it was in 1968, the midst of the Civil Rights movement, it’s so completely backwards it boggles your mind.  Who could possibly have those attitudes in the face of a progressive new world?  This speech is not only racist, it’s stunningly racist!  It’s mind-bogglingly racist!  How could one person be filled with so much hate?

This is why Peter could sue people for saying he is a racist.  To Peter Reynolds the accusation that immigrants move to Britain to stuff feces through the mail slots of good, white Britons are completely valid.  To Peter Reynolds there is nothing wrong with the term “wide-grinning pickininnies”.  To Peter Reynolds the white man now lives under the yolk of the black man’s power.  To Peter Reynolds these are the only possible explanation for the state of his life; because ignorance, alcoholism, cocaine addiction and all-around repugnant behaviors and attitudes can’t be the issue.

The entire body of Powell’s speech states quite openly that the only British people are white people, and that even the descendants of non-white immigrants will continue to erode the quality of British society.  He is saying in no an uncertain term that white is good and all other races are less so.

It’s vile in the extreme.

Beyond being vile, the notion that white Brits have been marginalized in Britain is patently absurd.  Is Parliament staffed by non-whites?  Is the upper crust all from Africa?  Are white people in Britain working as cab drivers and servants and support staff for well-to-do brown people?

No.  They aren’t.  There is no whip hand.  There is no white oppression.  There is no white minority.  Powell said in 1968 that inside of 20 years that would be the case and this speech was given almost 40 years ago.  You know what that means?

It means that Peter Reynolds, Enoch Powell, Nigel Farage and every other weapons-grade moron that thinks white people can’t get ahead in the world are wrong.  They’re not EVEN wrong.  They’re so far past wrong it’s just silly to attempt to measure the degree of their ignorance.  It’s what happens when racist middle-aged white men like Reynolds fail in life.  They blame immigrants.  They blame women.  They blame everything but the problem, that being themselves, because it is easier to project that failure outwards than address their own personal shortcomings.

It takes a weak individual to embrace white privilege.  You would only do so because you need the deck stacked in your favor.  Personally I like a level playing field for all players; I think it best employs human resources and makes life better for everybody.  I don’t fear competition from other races and cultures.  I don’t fear people in the streets who eat foods I am unfamiliar with or dress in clothing I haven’t seen, or speak a language I don’t know.  I embrace those differences; a pasty white homogenous society isn’t very interesting when you can have the benefit of many points of view.

Take another look at Peter’s “State of our Nation” article.  It reads a lot like Rivers of Blood, doesn’t it?  It features the same dire predictions about the fall of the white man, the overrunning of British society by evil immigrant types, and the ruination of a great empire.  Feeling extinct yet, white people?  I didn’t think so.  Peter is like Enoch Powell, albeit even less sophisticated, except that he is four decades further out of touch than even Enoch is.

Peter wonders how people could think he is racist, and then he goes and promotes the plainly divisive and viscously sectarian Enoch Powell.  The Strom Thurman of Great Britain is Peter Reynolds’ hero, imagine that.

What racism are we referring to when we say Peter Reynolds is a racist?  That racism.  That racism right there.
